My kiln was all fired up last night, it's cooled over niight. I was looking forward to extracting the results of my test piece firing this morning. The results of my paperclay birds nest project. The fun part of this project has been to strip away the outer parts of the birds nest project, to see how the injected clay had behaved.

Test Glazing of the birds nest piece completed: results =

and sat on the shelf - note the side elements of the nest (twigs etc) provide a natural footing/stand - the glaze used was clear glaze

Here are some test pieces for the new glaze I am using :-

paper clay test tiles

You can see that the glaze effects are not great - the left heart and middle round shaped paper clay test tiles were tested with only one coat of glaze and the third with 2 coats, however I had wiped back the edges which didn't help. So minimum two coats required (of course it does say that on the can).

This piece is made with white body paper clay and the wedgewood blue glaze on the one surface only, two coats of course (grin) and the results are great.
