This video demonstrated how to make a two part mold to create reproduction models.

The same principles can be used for making two part molds in a variety of materials.

Note the importance of using a releasing agent. Releasing agents can be specialist soap, vaseline or wax depending upon the type of arts and crafts materials you are using for your particular mold and model.

This is a standard two part mold, however if your arts and crafts model is more complex, you may need to make a multiple part mold (3 or 4 piece mold for example).

The main things to remember are that you have a divide line, a tight fit between the two sides and use a release agent.

An alternative to a release agent when using plaster as the molding material is to use a barrier between the original model and the plaster, for example a thin layer of latex or a thin layer of clay, that can be easily removed.
