I finally got round to looking at the video of the soft clay it certainly appears to be very flexible which is different from the air dry clays I have used. I will have to give this a go. Yukiko's book looks like a good buy - that's on my wishlist :>) Her flowers are really lifelike.

Thanks for the info

Deco Clay Flowers.jpgDiane,
The soft clay is fascinating. It feels almost like marshmallo and cool/damp to the touch. I have used DecoArt clay that I ordered from Hawaii. If you have Michael's crafts store in the UK they have one similar called Delight. I know of, but haven't yet tried the Luna and Pando clays from Japan nor the Thai clay... but I believe they are similar. It dries with a degree of flexibility in 12-24 hours and has and the most beautiful velvety finish that's perfect for florals. You can make it paper thin and it molds/cuts/shapes beautifully. A wonderful & beautiful book on the deco clay is Clay Art for All Seasons by Yukiko Miyai. These flowers put mine to shame. Her mother invented this clay in Japan in 1981. I will scan a picture from the book for you to see the possibilities. The site is at www.decoclay.com. At marthastewart.com you can search for soft clay flowers and see a demo. This was how I first became aware of it. Also, on Etsy.com there are a few soft clay flower crafters.
The clay comes in white and several colors for tinting. Just a tiney bit worked into the white (like stretching taffy) yields gorgeous colors. It can be used with flower and petal cutters and also veiners...just like gum paste flowers for cakes. The books on that subject are great for learning/adapting to the clay too. Hope you and others will give it a try.

Is anyone interested in a particular recipe - "bread dough" maybe??

I've changed this back to cover all other air dried clays - cold porcelain now has it's very own specific group which should help the continuity of that specific medium. thanks for everyones feedback, and again to Mary for being to wonderfully supportive. Di

I have changed the name of the group to Cold Porcelain (air dry clays) as we now have a few experts in the medium of cold porcelain - just look at their fabulous work - I am sure that many of the techniques you share here can be transferred to other air dry mediums and indeed paperclay projects.
