help!?

ok, so, here I go with the questions. Does anyone have a favorite clay recipe? I have found many online and done't have a clue which one to use!!
.........and how about paints? I like the idea that the clay will be translucent, could I use water color pencils to color the flowers or should I mix paint right into the dough??? and what about eye shadow? would that work?
.........has anyone found any useful substitutes for the pricey tools?? my brain is in high gear trying to come up some ideas ( I don't have the money for the real ones)
.........and lastly (for now anyway), has anyone used silk flowers and leaves as molds??

Dolly, you can use almost anything for coloring, shading and highlighting your CP.
Acrylics, Oils, fabric paints, food colors etc.
For tools there are many pieces around the kitchen and other craft tools you may already have.
Paint brush handles, quick unpickers,knitting needles, small scissors, sharp knife.
Well veined leaves from the garden for your leaf work make excellent markers.

Hi Dolly,
In my recipe I do not cook the clay, I use the same ingredients but mix as chapati dough. Really the tools are pricey. I sometimes collect my sons clay moulds or make templates on cardboard only veining is a bit difficult.

My name is Patty and I learned my cold porcelain recipe in Brazil where I took classes, and when I moved to the USA I had to adapt my original recipe because I couldn't find the same ingredients.
So after a long year of trying and wasting paste I finally found what works for me, it's been almost 4 years and I didn't have any problem with my recipe. Maybe you'd like to try it.

I like to use powder pigment for coloring my paste, but since It's very hard to find them here, usually I'm using acrylic or oil painting, I don't use gel food colorant, I found that makes the paste too soft and it cracks when it dryes.

For tools, I don't where you are located, but if you look at the cake decorations aisle at the crafts stores like Michaels or you also can find some of them at the Walmart, you'll find nice tolls and cutters at an affordable price.
