Cold Porcelain Molding Paste.

Equipment;
Non stick Pan. (I use a wok)
Measuring cups and spoons.
Wooden spoon
Non stick board
Cling wrap film
Airtight containers. (Plastic shop pots and lids)
Each mix cooks up approx. 400 grams.

Ingredients;
2 Tablespoons Baby Oil.
1 Teaspoon Eucalyptus Oil.
½ teaspoon citric acid. (Preservative – prevents moulding)
(You can also use Sodium Benzoate)
1 Cup Corn flour.
1 Cup PVA Glue. (Available from some Emporiums.) School Grade PVA is fine.
Cold cream for working on the board after cooking.
Check labels to see if any material is toxic.

Instructions for cooking in a NON STICK PAN;
Measure the oils into the pan.
Add PVA Glue and Citric Acid. or Sodium Benzoate.
Now add Corn flour, mixing all ingredients together until smooth.
Cook over a moderate heat until mixture leaves
the sides and bottom of the pan.
♥ Turn onto a non stick board, with some cold cream spread on the board,
and knead until smooth and white.
Take care as the mixture will be hot so you can cover with a damp cloth until cooler.
The hotter you can handle and knead the paste the better
Once cool, wrap in Cling wrap before placing in a sealed container.
Store at room temperature. Do not place in Refrigerator.
There is no specific time for cooking.

For Cooking on the Microwave.
Place all ingredients in Microwave bowl and mix well.
Making sure there are no lumps in the mix.
Cook for 1 ½ to 3 minutes, stirring every 30 seconds,
♥ Work as above.
Should the paste be sticky once you start kneading this could mean it needs more cooking. Cook for increments of 30 seconds.
To mix colors into paste, use Acrylic or Oil artist paints.
Water mixable Oil colors are superb – when you can find them!
To make Opaque colors add white first and then other colors as required.
Without white added to your paste your finished pieces will have a translucent look.

Just play, experiment and have fun.

Hi Katy, I'm going to try your recipe for cold porcelain because it differs slightly to others I have come across. One thing I would like to ask and that is by tablespoon do you use the old fashioned measurement of tablespoon which is the equivalent of two desertspoons. I ask this because here in Australia it can be either or, depending on who is writing the recipe. Thanks Joyce.

Hello Chandini.
Happy New Year to you and yours.

Most modelling pastes will shrink as they dry because of the moisture in the paste.
It is not a lot of shrinkage but you do have to allow for it.
You will also notice that the colors will dry a little darker too.

You can pay by using a credit card. eg; Mastercard or Visa. Paypal will accept and transfer to my account. Just follow the info on the Buy Now button.

Let me know how you get on.
Cheers
Katy
