This pit firing chamber is very similar to the one I have in my own back yard.

The video demonstrates how you can fire your paperclay or ceramic creations in a pit fire, with sawdust as the main fuel, started off with a wood stick top fire.

This can also be done on a small scale, for firing one or two small items, by using say a large biscuit tin or similar metal container with a lid. There does need to be air flow to get the fire started and keep it burning.
