If you don't have access to a kiln don't let that put you off trying paper clay as an art and craft medium.
Paper clay is just as easy to use as normal clay, although it takes a little more time to prepare, it's versatile nature makes it worthwhile and it is very forgiving when fired in sawdust or the extreme heat of a pit firing.
Here's how to fire in sawdust:
This pit firing chamber is very similar to the one I have in my own back yard.
The video demonstrates how you can fire your paper clay or ceramic creations in a pit fire, with sawdust as the main fuel, started off with a wood stick top fire.
This can also be done on a small scale, for firing one or two small items, by using say a large biscuit tin or similar metal container with a lid.
There does need to be air flow to get the fire started and keep it burning.
